Event Schedule
Samuhika Satyanarayana Vratham is a group worship event where devotees come together to perform the Satyanarayana Vratham, a Hindu ritual dedicated to Lord Vishnu in his form as Satyanarayana, the embodiment of truth. Devotees will be Here are the general guidelines and steps for performing this Vratham:
All participants should wash their hands and feet, and women should wear traditional attire (saris) while men should wear dhotis or traditional clothes. Begin the ritual by reciting a Sankalpam or vow, stating the purpose of the puja. The Sankalpam typically includes the names of the participants, the location, and the reason for performing the Vratham (to seek blessings, resolve a difficulty, etc.). The priest may guide you through this step.
The Vratham usually starts with the worship of Lord Ganesha to remove obstacles and ensure the smooth completion of the ritual. Offer flowers, fruits, and sweets to the idol or picture of Lord Ganesha.
The Kalasha is prepared by placing water, a coin, turmeric, and a few grains of rice inside it. Mango leaves are arranged around the mouth of the pot, and a coconut is placed on top. This Kalasha is then placed on a bed of rice on a plate, symbolizing prosperity and fertility.
After the Kalasha Sthapana, Lord Satyanarayana is invoked in the Kalasha and the idol or picture. Participants offer sandalwood paste, turmeric, kumkum, and flowers, and light a lamp (diya) in front of the altar. Recite or chant Satyanarayana Mantras and perform Archana (offering flowers while reciting the 108 names of Lord Vishnu or Satyanarayana).
The central part of the Vratham is the recitation of the Satyanarayana Katha, a story in five chapters, which narrates the significance of this Vratham and recounts stories of those who performed the Vratham and received divine blessings. The priest or a senior member reads the Katha aloud while participants listen with devotion.
After the story is completed, Naivedyam or offerings are made to the deity. This includes sweets (like rava kesari or sheera), fruits, coconuts, and other food items. A portion of the prasadam is set aside for Lord Satyanarayana, while the rest is distributed among the devotees after the puja.
The Aarti is performed by lighting the camphor and waving it in a circular motion before the deities. Participants sing traditional Aarti songs, such as "Jaya Jagadisha Hare" or any other Aarti dedicated to Lord Vishnu.
The prasadam, which was offered during the puja, is distributed to all the participants and devotees. This is considered a sacred offering from Lord Satyanarayana, believed to bring prosperity and good fortune.
